Balanced and unbalanced forces on motion

NGSS·science·Grade 3·Bloom: Apply·Last verified: May 17, 2026

Plan and conduct an investigation to provide evidence of the effects of balanced and unbalanced forces on the motion of an object. Clarification: Examples include an unbalanced force on one side of a ball causing motion, and balanced forces pushing a box from both sides producing no motion. Assessment Boundary: Limited to one variable at a time (number, size, or direction of forces). Uses qualitative and relative comparisons only, not quantitative force measurements. Gravity addressed only as a downward-pulling force.
